8th Pay Commission Terms of Reference: In a meeting with the staff side of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery, it can be discussed on what basis the salary, pension will be decided for the 8th Pay Commission.
An important meeting is going to be held on Monday, February 10, to decide on the basis on which the 8th Central Pay Commission will decide the salary, pension and other benefits of central employees. This meeting has been called by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) along with the staff side of the Standing Committee of the National Council for Joint Consultative Machinery (NC JCM).
According to the department, the Terms of Reference of the 8th Pay Commission will be discussed in this meeting. NC-JCM had sent suggestions to the government on this. The organization also held an internal meeting on Monday before the meeting with the government in which the agenda related to this was discussed.
Suggestions were sent to the government
In the proposal sent to the government, JCM had demanded a review of the existing payment structure, retirement benefits, principles of dignified living wage and removal of shortcomings in the 7th Pay Commission. Apart from this, the demand for merging different pay scales into one and changes in family pension was also put forward.
Apart from financial payments, requests were also made to keep in mind the challenges faced by railway employees and defense civilian employees while on duty. It was said that the dangers faced by defense civilian employees who make weapons, chemicals, gunpowder, acid should be understood and special risk allowance, insurance cover, compensation etc. should be given.
When will the 8th Pay Commission come?
Earlier, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had said that the government has approved the formation of the commission and decisions regarding other aspects related to it will also be taken soon. He had said that decisions regarding the notification of the 8th Pay Commission, appointment of the chairperson and the time limit from proceedings to the report will be taken in time.
What do employees expect?
Central employees and pensioners expect that this time the Fitment Factor can be increased to the range of 1.92-2.08. The Fitment Factor is a multiplier that is used to revise the salary and pension of central employees on the proposal of the Pay Commission.
If it is increased to the range of 1.92-2.08, then the minimum salary of a central employee can increase from ₹ 18,000 to ₹ 34,560 or ₹ 37,440.
