Only birth certificate valid under new rules
The central government has made significant amendments in the passport rules. According to the new provisions, the birth certificate will be considered the only valid proof of their date of birth for applicants born on or after October 1, 2023. This certificate should be issued by institutions authorized by the government, such as:
- Registrar of Births and Deaths
- Municipal Corporation
- Any other officer authorized under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969
If the applicants are unable to produce this certificate, their date of birth will not be considered valid and there may be a problem in the passport application.
If the applicant is unable to submit this certificate, his date of birth will not be considered valid and there may be a problem in passport application.
Other documents also valid under old rules
Those who are born before October 1, 2023 can also submit other documents to prove their date of birth. These include:
- Driving license
- School leaving certificate
- PAN card
- Voter ID card
- Other government documents containing date of birth
These documents will be considered valid for passport application as before.
Government notification and effective date
The central government has issued an official notification this week to make this amendment effective. According to officials, the amended rules will be implemented after publishing in the official gazette.
Effect of new rules
Due to this change, now people born on or after October 1, 2023 will have to pay special attention to getting a birth certificate, as other documents will not be accepted as proof of date of birth. At the same time, old applicants are still given the facility of other options.
