PMUY: PMUY was launched on May 1, 2016, with the goal of providing free cooking gas connections to poor families, and by January 30, 2023, the number of connections released under the scheme has reached 9.58 crore.
LPG Connections: If you also have LPG Connection, then you must know this update. A record 17 crore new LPG connections have been given in the last 9 years in the country. With this, the number of LPG customers in the country has doubled to 31.26 crore. Official data stated that the number of active domestic LPG customers stood at 14.52 crore in April 2014. This number increased to 31.36 in March 2023.
Earlier LPG cylinder was available in 7 to 10 days
This record increase in the number of consumers is due to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Due to this scheme, the coverage of LPG has increased from 62 percent in 2016 to 104.1 percent in 2022. Once upon a time one had to wait for a new LPG connection. LPG cylinder was available in 7 to 10 days. At the same time, LPG connection is available whenever needed. In most places, the cylinder also arrives within a day.
5 kg cylinder launched
For such customers who have less need or weak purchasing capacity, government vendors have also introduced 5 kg cylinder, which is in addition to the traditional 14.2 kg cylinder. To bring the remaining families under PMUY, Ujjwala 2.0 was launched on August 10, 2021, with the target of providing an additional one crore LPG connections. This target was achieved on January 31, 2022, and in view of the large number of applications, the government decided to give 60 lakh more connections under it.
