The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested an alleged middleman in connection with a liquor scam case in Jharkhand.
According to sources, the investigating agency had raided the premises of Rohit Oraon, son of state Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon, and some others. After this, a person named Yogendra Tiwari was detained under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
About 34 to 40 premises were searched and
after interrogating Yogendra Tiwari, he was arrested. He can be produced before a special court here on Friday or Saturday. The investigating agency had conducted raids in this case in August and searched around 34 to 40 premises in the state capital Ranchi, Dumka, Deoghar and Godda districts.
ED also raided the premises of Finance Minister Oraon . Father and son stay at the same place. Searches were also conducted at the business and residential premises of some liquor traders. MLA Rameshwar Oraon (76) won from Lohardaga assembly constituency on Congress ticket.
Oraon is holding the charge of Finance, Planning and Commercial Taxes department in the cabinet of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Rameshwar Oraon had served in the Union Cabinet during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He is a retired officer of 1972 batch of Indian Police Service.
