Banks Closed in Delhi: As the time for the G20 leaders’ summit draws near, the local administration in the national capital is gearing up for the mega event. This time the G20 Summit 2023 will see the arrival of world leaders from all over the world including US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In view of the rush around the G20 summit, the administration has decided to keep all banks in the national capital closed from September 8-10.

Why will the banks remain closed till 8-10 September?

The move has been taken by the authorities to manage traffic congestion during the G20 event. Many dignitaries will arrive in the program and there will be many people with them and it has been decided to keep the banks closed so that the situation does not get worse due to the pressure of the vehicles.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police said, “Since most of the people will arrive on September 8, the delegates will leave for their respective countries on September 10-11. There will be massive traffic movement during the summit which needs to be reduced to ensure safe passage of delegates from airport to hotels and other places.

Delhi police did mock drill

Last week, the Delhi Police conducted mock drills around Pragati Maidan, the venue of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, and other hotels where dignitaries are scheduled to stay during the G20 summit. The security forces have carried out a special exercise in preparation for the G20 event.

Apart from this, the Delhi government has also announced public holidays in schools from 8-10 September. At the same time, all the offices and private offices of Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi will also remain closed.

Public Holiday in Delhi from 8-10 September?

This week, the Delhi Police wrote to the chief secretary, suggesting that the government declare September 8-10 as a public holiday and issue instructions to shut down most of the commercial establishments located in the New Delhi area in view of the G20 summit.

Apart from this, due to security reasons, some metro stations like the Supreme Court and the Central Secretariat are also set to be closed. Meanwhile, Delhi Police said that they are working on massive arrangements during the G20 summit.
