Do you also use cabs to travel to and from office? If yes, then you too must have seen many times that your fare would have been very high for the same distance. In fact, App Based Taxi Providers like Ola and Uber charge Cab Surge Charges from cab passengers during busy hours. However, now preparations are on to rein them in.
Preparing for this change
According to the news published in Hindi newspaper Hindustan, the Delhi government is going to give a blow to companies like Ola-Uber. The Transport Department of Delhi has prepared a new rule, if implemented, these companies will not be able to increase the cab fare during peak time. It has been said in the news that mobile app based taxi providers will no longer be able to increase fares during peak hours.
This is the current provision
Most peak times apply between 7 am to 11 am and 5 to 8 pm or late at night. During this time, the fares of cabs of companies like Ola and Uber increase significantly, because surge charge is added to their basic fare. According to the existing provision, these cab companies can charge surge charge up to double the fixed fare. This is the reason why cab companies charge much higher fares than normal during peak hours.
Due to this surge charge was removed
According to the news, the Transport Department has removed the surge charge in the policy prepared for taxi operators. Aggregator policy has been finalized for taxi operators in Delhi. Now public opinion will be taken on this. It has been claimed in the news that Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot himself was angry with the provision of surge charge.
On the other hand, common people were also demanding regularization and control of surge charge for a long time. People often used to complain that cab companies charge arbitrary fares in the name of surge charge.
Cab sharing also banned
According to the news, in the new policy prepared by the Delhi government, the rules regarding cab sharing along with surge charge have also been changed. It is being told that the government is also going to end the provision of cab sharing. This step can harm those who travel by cabs daily. Especially those people will have to bear the loss, who take advantage of the sharing facility to reduce the daily travel fare.
