There are more than 75 lakh central government employees and about 65 lakh pensioners in our country. The government provides allowance to central government employees through DA and DR. Dearness Allowance is decided by the Pay Commission and the Central Government.
The decision to increase DA is mainly based on AICPI (All India Consumer Price Index). The government had increased the DA of central employees by 4 percent in July last year and after this, it increased it by 3 percent in October last year to 53 percent of the basic salary. In such a situation, central government employees are getting DA of more than half of the basic salary.
DA increases twice a year
The Pay Commission revises the dearness allowance given to central government employees twice a year to provide them relief from inflation. In such a situation, employees and pensioners get a chance to increase dearness allowance twice a year.
The government revises the dearness allowance once in January and second time in July. The benefit of dearness allowance (DA) revised in January is available to the eligible people on the festival of Holi. Whereas the benefit of the allowance revised for the second time is available on the festival of Diwali.
According to the data, DA can increase up to 3 percent
According to the data of the Pay Commission, the government can increase the dearness allowance by 3 percent in the first quarter of the year 2025. The government had increased the dearness allowance by only three percent in October last year. Recently, central employees and pensioners are getting the benefit of 53 percent DA. With an increase of 3 percent, employees and pensioners can get up to 56 percent DA.
Due to which their salary can increase to a great extent. Data released till October 2024 shows that there may be a 3 percent increase in DA in January 2025, because at that time AICPI was at 144.5. However, the data for November and December has not been released yet. If this figure remains around 145 in both these months, then only in January 2025, DA will increase to 56 percent.
Employees will get the gift of increase in DA in the month of March
The Pay Commission is going to give relief to central employees and pensioners in the rising inflation. The dearness allowance, which is revised twice a year, can be revised in the first week of March. Due to which the employees and pensioners working in the Center are going to get a big boost in the festival of Holi. There is a possibility that the government may give the gift of increased DA to the employees before the festival of Holi.
8th Pay Commission benefits will be available next year
The government is going to give the benefit of 8th Pay Commission to central employees and pensioners in January 2026. With the introduction of the new pay commission, the salary of central government employees will almost double. The government brings a new pay commission every ten years. Meanwhile, employees get the benefit of increase in DA and DR.
