In the Union Cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an announcement can be made to increase the Dearness Allowance of government employees and pensioners. In today’s cabinet meeting, the dearness allowance and dearness relief of government employees-pensioners can be increased by 3 percent from 53 percent to 56 percent.

About one crore government employees and pensioners are waiting for the increase in this dearness allowance from the central government. The central government increases the dearness allowance of 49 lakh central employees and 68 lakh pensioners twice a year. The first increase is for the period from January to June and the second is for the period from July to December. If the Union Cabinet increases the dearness allowance today, then the salary of March will increase and the arrears of January-February will also come along with it. The increase in dearness allowance will be effective from January 1, 2025.

At present, the Seventh Pay Commission is in force under which dearness allowance is being increased. But the government has announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, whose committee is yet to be formed. The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented from January 1, 2026, then it will be decided how the dearness allowance will be increased and how much dearness allowance will be given.
