How much can DA and DR increase?
According to reports, this time Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) may increase by 2%. If this happens, central employees and pensioners will get more money. Earlier in October 2024, DA was increased by 3%, increasing it from 50% to 53%. This increase in DA depends on the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW), which shows how expensive the living of workers has become.
DA is increased twice a year
The central government announces the increase in DA and DR twice a year. Usually this increase is for January and July, but it is announced in March and September. According to the Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW) data of December 2024, the index has come down from 144 to 143.7, due to which it is being estimated that this time DA may increase by 2 percent. However, the final decision will be clear only after the official announcement of the central government.

The decision to increase DA is taken by the Labor Bureau under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The Labor Bureau collects data from 317 markets every month and prepares the CPI-IW index based on 88 major industrial centers.
