Mamata Banerjee said- I announce that all 14 lakh employees of the state government, teaching and non-teaching staff of all schools, colleges and universities, employees of all government undertakings and pensioners will be given a DA of four percent from January 1, 2024. What the Chief Minister said: Mamata Banerjee said that for the DA increase, her government will have to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 2,400 crore. He said, “For us DA is not mandatory but optional. Keeping in mind the welfare of the employees, we are increasing DA by 4 percent.

Let us tell you that the government employees of West Bengal have been protesting for almost a year demanding increase in dearness allowance. Protests are also taking place for this. Recently, the police had refused permission to the protesting government employees to sit on strike. After this the employees reached Kolkata High Court and got permission to sit on strike tomorrow i.e. from 22nd December to 24th December.
Gift to Meghalaya employees
Recently Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced early release of December salaries for 55,000 government employees and a three percent increase in dearness allowance.
The Chief Minister also shared an office memorandum of the Finance Department on the social media platform, in which it has been decided to increase the dearness allowance for employees and pensioners from the current 36 percent to 39 percent from July 1.
