The new price of diesel in Karnataka is now Rs 91.02 per liter, while petrol is being sold at Rs 102.99 per liter. The Karnataka Petroleum Dealers Association said that the price of diesel has been increased by about Rs 2.
The Karnataka government has given a big shock to the public by increasing the sales tax on diesel by 3%. After this, the price of diesel has increased by Rs 2. This has become effective from April 1. According to the notification of the state government, the Karnataka Sales Tax (KST) on diesel has been increased from 18.4% to 21.17%.
Earlier in Karnataka, the price of diesel was Rs 88.99 per liter, while petrol was Rs 102.99 per liter. After all, the Karnataka Petroleum Dealers Association said that the price of diesel has been increased by about Rs 2.
An official statement said that before November 4, 2021, the rate of sales tax on diesel in Karnataka was 24 percent and the selling price per liter was Rs 92.03. On June 15 last year, the Karnataka government issued a notification reducing the tax rate on diesel to 18.44 percent.
According to the statement, “After the approval of the competent authority, the rate of sales tax on diesel has been increased to 21.17 per cent from April 1, 2025. After this, there will be an increase of two rupees per liter, taking the selling price to Rs 91.02.” However, even after this increase, the revised selling price in the state will remain lower than the neighboring states.
The statement further said that as of March 31, 2025, the price of diesel in Bengaluru is Rs 89.02, while in Hosur (Tamil Nadu) it is Rs 94.42, in Kasaragod (Kerala) Rs 95.66, in Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) Rs 97.35, in Hyderabad (Telangana) Rs 95.70 and in Kagal (Maharashtra) Rs 91.07. Criticizing the move, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashok accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of imposing taxes on commodities one by one.
Meanwhile, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday accused Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah government of turning into a “price rise demon” and said that it is sucking the blood of the people. In a statement issued to the media, he said, “From today, the Congress Company government is imposing cess even on garbage. It is sucking the blood of the people.” He accused the state government of cheating and constantly increasing prices. He said sarcastically in the statement, “This is the ruling style of the Karnataka East India Congress Company government. From today, the Congress Company government is imposing cess even on garbage.”
