There have been many updates in the EPFO system. The latest update is that members can easily edit their personal information including their name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents’ name, marriage status, spouse’s name, entry and exit date and other details without submitting any documents.
The Employees Provident Fund Organization has changed the rules to provide relief to its members and to simplify the updating process. Now employees can easily update the EPF profile. No documents will be required for this. This decision of EPFO will benefit 3.9 lakh members with pending requests. These members now have the facility to cancel the pending requests and resubmit them under the new streamlined process.
What information can be updated?

The latest update is that members can easily edit their personal information without submitting any documents, which includes their name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents’ name, marriage status, spouse’s name, date of entry and exit and other information.
Who will get this facility?
EPFO has informed that this facility is for those members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) is verified with Aadhaar. The purpose of this process is to reduce complaints and resolve pending requests quickly. Earlier, verification from the employer was required for the change, which took about 28 days.
Aadhaar and PAN must also be linked
Now about 45 per cent of the requests can be self-approved by the member. The other 50 per cent can be dealt with only with the approval of the employer without the involvement of the EPFO. However, for this, members will have to ensure that their Aadhaar and PAN are linked to the EPF account, as this is mandatory for any update or withdrawal. Without this, there may be a delay in fulfilling the request.
What will be the complete process
According to PIB, currently about 27 percent of the complaints filed by the members are related to profile and KYC issues. It is believed that the new process will reduce these complaints significantly. For profile related changes, the member will not have to submit documents and wait for the approval of the employer. For this, UAN should be linked to Aadhaar. Members will have to request for updates by logging on to the EPFO portal or Umang app.
How to update?
- First of all go to the EPFO portal (https://unifiedportal-
- mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/).
- Now login by entering your UAN Universal Account Number, Password and Captcha.
- After logging in, click on the ‘Manage’ tab at the top.
- If you want to update personal details like name, date of birth or gender, then select the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option.
- Fill the required information as per your Aadhaar card properly. The details in EPF and Aadhaar should be the same.
- Upload supporting documents (like Aadhaar card, PAN card or birth certificate) if required.
