Last year also, on Diwali, 1.85 crore beneficiary families and more than 85 lakh women were given free cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme. This time, 1.86 crore beneficiary families are being given free cylinders.
The government spent Rs 1,890 crore

What is Prime Minister Ujjwala Scheme?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was started by the central government on May 1, 2016, under which many people in Uttar Pradesh are taking advantage of the scheme. This scheme was started to promote women empowerment and economic strength. The scheme has been started to promote the use of gas for cooking especially in rural areas.
The eligible families under this scheme are given LPG cylinder, safety hose, regulator and domestic gas consumer card (DGCC books). Apart from this, every month the beneficiaries are also given a subsidy of Rs 300 on LPG cylinder.
