Income Tax Refund: According to the website of the Income Tax Department, till August 23, more than 6.91 crore have filed ITR and 6.59 crore have completed the verification process.
Income Tax Return e-Verification: Many taxpayers had filed Income Tax Return for Assessment Year 2023-24 or FY 2022-23 through the e-filing portal before the deadline, but did not verify their ITR. Now these taxpayers will not be considered eligible for refund, because according to the rules of the IT department, it is mandatory for all taxpayers to verify their ITR.
If the taxpayer does not verify his income tax return, then the ITR will not be considered filled. Income Tax Department gives 30 days time to verify after filing ITR. Income Tax Department will not process for refund if verification is not done. In such a situation, these taxpayers will have to file income tax return again.
31 lakh people will not get refund!
According to the Income Tax website, more than 6.91 crore people had filed returns till August 23, but only 6.59 crore taxpayers have verified their ITRs. The remaining 31 lakh people have not got their returns verified. Out of this, for some taxpayers, there is a time of 30 days for verification, which will end soon. The Income Tax Department has alerted these people to get the verification done as soon as possible.

Through a tweet on the X platform on Wednesday, the Income Tax Department said that verify your ITR should be completed within 30 days, otherwise you will have to file the return again and for this you will have to pay the late fee.

How much will be charged for filing ITR now?
The last date for filing ITR for the assessment year 2023-24 was given by the Income Tax Department on 31 July. After this filing of belated ITR is allowed. Late fee has to be paid for late filing of ITR. Taxpayers whose income is less than Rs 5 lakh annually, they have to pay Rs 1000 and those whose annual income is more than Rs 5 lakh, they have to make late payment of Rs 5000.
How to verify ITR
You can easily verify your ITR. You can verify ITR by sending OTP to Aadhaar registered mobile number on e-filing portal. Apart from this, ITR can also be verified through netbanking and offline mode.
You will have to login to the portal for verification through Aadhaar OTP. After this one has to go to ‘e-Verify Return’. Now select the medium through which you want to do the verification and complete the verification.
