The relations between India and Sri Lanka are very deep and old and now another phase has been started to strengthen these relations. From today, ferry service has been started from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu to Kankesanturai in Sri Lanka.
India Sri Lanka Ferry Service: Today a new chapter has been started in the economic relations between India and Sri Lanka and ferry service has started between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started it, after which he said that “This will prove to be a good beginning in the ongoing economic and diplomatic relations between the two countries.” The Prime Minister said many things in this regard through video conferencing.
Before this, Union Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off the ferry service started between Nagapattinam and Sri Lanka. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar was also seen participating virtually in this program.
Ferry service will be a milestone
Regarding the launch of the ferry service, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “India and Sri Lanka have been sharing a deep history of civilization, culture and commerce for a long time. With the start of the ferry service, the economic partnership between the two countries will also increase. This service has been started between Nagapattinam and Kankesanturai, which will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the relationship between us.”

During his address, PM Modi also said that “Recently, it was agreed to increase the economic partnership between the two countries and this connectivity is the central theme of this partnership. This is not only bringing the two cities closer but will also increase the closeness between the two countries and the people living there. This connectivity will strengthen trade, tourism and people-to-people ties.”
Fare and travel time
Any passenger who wants to take advantage of this ferry service started from India to Sri Lanka will have to take a ticket of Rs 7670, which includes 6500 tickets and 18 percent GST. It has been inaugurated today itself, due to which this ticket has been fixed at Rs 2800. In which Rs 2375 is ticket and the rest is GST. Through this ferry service one can reach Sri Lanka from Tamil Nadu in 3 hours.
