Indian Railway Rules: According to the new rules announced by the Ministry of Railways, passengers can now give their tickets to someone else. Yes, now you can travel on someone else’s already booked ticket if he/she is unable to travel.
This means that if you have a confirmed train ticket but cannot travel due to any reason or you suddenly get busy elsewhere then your ticket will not get wasted. You can save money by giving it to a family member.
However, it must be emphasized that this option is open only to those persons who have confirmed tickets. It can be transferred to your family member including your mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband and wife. Indian Railways advises the customer to submit the request for this service 24 hours prior to the departure of the train.
Follow these steps to transfer tickets
- Take a printout of the ticket.
- Then you have to go to the reservation counter of your nearest railway station.
- You will have to carry the Aadhaar card or Voting ID card of the person in whose name you want to transfer the ticket.
- Now apply for ticket transfer over the counter.
Passengers should be aware that they can use this service only once. This implies that once a ticket has been given by a passenger to another person, he cannot change it again for any reason whatsoever.
