When can taxpayer expect refund?

If you have filed ITR, ITR refund is usually issued within 7 to 120 days from the date of return filing.

Check your refund status step by step

  • First of all you go to www.incometax.gov.in website and login to your account by entering User ID (PAN) and Password.
  • After that you log in and click on the ‘e-file’ option.
  • After this you select ‘Income Tax Return’ and then click on ‘View Returns Filed’.
  • After that now, check the latest ITR filed
  • Then click on ‘View Details’ option which will show you the status of ITR filed.

What to do if refund is delayed?

First of all , the taxpayer should check his email whether the Income Tax Department has sent you any e-mail, which needs to be answered as soon as possible.

If the ITR status shows Refund expired, it means that the refund has not been presented for payment within the validity period of 90 days. In this case, the taxpayer can request for reissue of refund.

In case the return was filed electronically, the refund reissue request can be raised online by logging in to the e-filing portal with user ID and password .

If the status appears as ‘Return’, the taxpayer may be required to provide correct bank details and re-issue the refund with the e-filing portal/Assessing Officer.
