Hazaribagh News: Former SDO Ashok Kumar has been arrested by Jharkhand Police in the case of his wife’s death. Kumar was absconding after this incident which happened in 2024. His anticipatory bail was also rejected.
Jharkhand News: Police in Jharkhand on Sunday (February 9) arrested former Hazaribagh Sadar SDO Ashok Kumar in connection with the death of his wife. In December 2023, his wife Anita Devi allegedly set herself on fire. A team of police officers has arrested Ashok Kumar from Ranchi.
Ashok Kumar was absconding since this incident. Police officer Amit Kumar Anand said that at present the accused is being brought to Hazaribagh, where he will be produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).
FIR lodged against family
Rajkumar Gupta, brother of the deceased Anita Devi, had lodged an FIR against Ashok Kumar and other members of his family in this case. After this incident, Ashok Kumar was removed from his post. At the same time, Ashok Kumar had applied for anticipatory bail in the court to avoid arrest, but it was rejected on January 31 itself.
What is the whole matter?
According to the police, Anita Devi set herself on fire in a government residence in Lohsinghana, Hazaribagh on 26 December 2024. The reason for which is not yet known. On one hand, the family members of the deceased have accused Ashok Kumar’s family of burning Anita Devi by pouring oil on her, citing marital discord.
Ashok Kumar’s mother, father, brother, sister-in-law and sister have also been accused in this incident. On the other hand, Ashok Kumar has rejected all the allegations. Ashok Kumar was absconding since this incident, but is currently in police custody and the police is now investigating the matter from every angle.
