Ranchi: Due to this movement which lasted for five days, Railways had to cancel a total of 435 trains with a loss of more than Rs 1,700 crore and 4.25 lakh passengers were inconvenienced.

Jharkhand News: The ‘Rail Roko Andolan’, which has been going on for the last five days by the Kurmi community of Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha, has been postponed late Sunday evening. On the other hand, from Monday, train services in the South-East Railway are slowly becoming normal. Hundreds of mail-express trains stuck due to the five-day agitation are being started on Monday.

According to official sources of the Railways, due to this agitation which lasted for five days, the Railways has suffered a loss of more than Rs 1,700 crore. A total of 435 trains had to be canceled and at least 1.25 lakh passengers had to postpone their journey. Due to the non-clearance of the railway track, more than two dozen trains were canceled on Monday as well.

Let us tell you that the movement to stop the rail and highway was going on since April 5, demanding the status of tribal (Scheduled Tribe) to the Kurmi caste. Due to this movement, trains passing through various stations of six railway divisions Howrah, Adra, Kharagpur, Dhanbad, Ranchi and Chakradharpur were badly affected in the last five days.

At the same time, trains going to various stations in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh were either stopped or were diverted.

While the movement was postponed,

Ajit Prasad Mahato, a prominent leader of the tribal Kurmi community, announced that several rounds of talks have taken place with the Bengal state administration. The deadlock on the demands has not been resolved, but on the assurance of the administration, the agitation is being postponed for the time being.

Along with this, the jam on the Ranchi-Kolkata highway has also ended. According to the information, due to non-running of 70-80 goods trains, Chakradharpur division was losing crores of revenue daily due to loading and transportation being affected.

Let us tell you that, due to stoppage of train operations on the Howrah-Patna route, Tatanagar Railway is expected to suffer a loss of about 45 lakhs, while other stations of Chakradharpur division are expected to suffer a loss of 10-15 lakhs daily.
