The incident took place during a wedding ceremony and the investigation is being conducted on the basis of the victim’s statement. At the same time, the police have taken swift action in this case and detained some people.
A minor girl from West Bengal, who had come to attend a wedding in Dumka, Jharkhand, was allegedly gang-raped by five men, police said on Thursday. The girl lodged a complaint at Shikaripara police station, which is about 310 km from the Jharkhand capital.
Dumka Superintendent of Police (SP) Pitambar Singh Kherwar said, “The incident took place on the intervening night of June 11 and 12. The process of registering an FIR is being completed. Some people have been detained in connection with the case.”
Bengal girl gangraped in Jharkhand
SP Kherwar said the girl has stated in her complaint that she was raped by five men. “The girl is a minor but her real age is being ascertained and confirmed,” he said. The victim told police that she had come to Jharkhand from West Bengal to attend a wedding ceremony in a village under Shikaripara police station area. “They were roaming around in the midnight of June 11 when she was gangraped,” the Superintendent of Police said, quoting her complaint. Shikaripara police station in-charge Hariprasad Shah said the victim has been sent to a hospital for medical examination.
