Jharkhand Election: A total of 683 candidates are trying their luck on 43 seats in the first phase in Jharkhand. 34 percent of these candidates are millionaires. The richest candidate of the first phase is independent Kandomani Bhumij, whose assets are worth Rs 80 crore.
Campaigning is in full swing for the Jharkhand Assembly elections. The first phase of voting is scheduled for November 13 and the second phase on November 20 in the state. Meanwhile, the Association for Democratic Remars (ADR) has published a report on the affidavits filed by the first phase candidates. According to the report, a total of 683 candidates are in the fray for the 43 seats in the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024, out of which 73 (11%) are women candidates. How many candidates are tainted?
ADR has analysed the affidavits of 682 out of 683 candidates contesting in the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections. Due to ambiguity in the affidavit, the details of independent candidate Brajendra Hemrom contesting from Torpa (ST) seat have not been included.
Out of 682 candidates, 174 (26%) have criminal cases registered against them. Whereas 127 candidates (19%) have serious criminal cases registered against them.
Which party gave tickets to how many tainted candidates?
Among the major parties, BJP has the highest number of tainted candidates. 20 out of 36 BJP candidates (56%) have criminal cases registered against them. After this, 11 out of 17 Congress candidates (65%), 11 out of 23 JMM candidates (48%), 8 out of 29 BSP candidates (28%) have criminal cases registered against them. 3 out of 5 RJD candidates and both JDU candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Talking about candidates with serious criminal cases, among the major parties, 15 out of 36 BJP candidates (42%) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. At the same time, 8 (47%) out of 17 candidates of Congress, 7 (30%) out of 23 candidates of JMM, 6 (21%) out of 29 candidates of BSP, 3 (60%) out of 5 candidates of RJD and 2 (100%) out of 2 candidates of JDU have serious criminal cases registered against them.
11 candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women. 4 candidates have declared cases related to murder (old IPC section-302) against themselves. There are 40 candidates with declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC section 307 and BNS section 109).
How many crorepati candidates are in the fray?
Out of the 682 candidates contesting in the first phase in 2024, 34 percent i.e. 235 candidates are crorepatis. Talking about the average wealth of all these candidates, it is Rs 2.16 crore. There are 63 candidates whose assets are five crores or more. The wealth of 78 candidates is between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore. 198 candidates with assets between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crore are in the fray. The number of candidates whose wealth is between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh is 199. The wealth of 144 candidates is less than Rs 10 lakh.
