A major accident took place on Thursday afternoon in Piska village of Silli block of Ranchi district. Here, in order to remove a bull that had fallen in a raw well, the soil of the well got sunk. This resulted in the death of six people while three were injured. The dead bodies were taken out from inside till late night. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed grief over this incident.
A major accident took place on Thursday afternoon in Piska village of Silli block of Ranchi district. Here, in order to remove a bull that had fallen in a raw well, the soil of the well got sunk. This resulted in the death of six people, while three were injured.
Six killed, many injured after falling into a well
It is being told that at around 4 in the afternoon, in an attempt to get out the bull that had fallen into the well, people were fighting standing on top of the raw mound of the well. An attempt was made to somehow pull the bull up with the help of a rope.
Meanwhile, the soil of the well caved in and all the people standing above fell into the well and got buried under the debris. Of the nine people who fell in the well, six have died, while three were rescued by the villagers with the help of the police and the rescue team. Efforts were on till late night to take out the dead bodies of the people who fell in the well.
People trapped in 40 feet deep well
By digging a pit next to the well and making a tunnel with the help of Poklen and JCB, the members of the rescue team reached the well and were trying to evacuate the people buried under the debris there. The well is said to be very old and 40 feet deep. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Silli MLA Sudesh Mahto have expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Many dignitaries including MLA reached the spot
After getting the information of the incident, AJSU President Sudesh Mahto, MLA Representative Jaipal Singh, Zip Vice President Veena Chaudhary, Chief Jitendra Baraik, BDO Pawan Ashish Lakda, Silli Police Station Incharge Akashdeep, Muri OP Incharge Vipul Kumar Jha also reached the spot and stayed till late night.
The people who reached the spot got involved in relief work with the help of JCB. At the same time, on the appeal of the administration, the rescue team of Hindalco also reached. Three JCBs, one Hydra and rescue team were sent to the spot by Hindalco. The rescue work was going on till late night.
Whose life was lost, who suppressed and saved
- Bhagirath, Surendra Das Goswami and Ashok Manjhi have been rescued.
- The bodies of Manohar Manjhi and Vishnu Charan Manjhi have been recovered.
- Gurupad Manjhi, Ramesh Chandra Manjhi, Bahadur Manjhi and Dhananjay Manjhi were buried under the debris.
