The weather in Jharkhand has been wreaking havoc for the past three days. The crops here have suffered a lot of damage. The government has made an announcement regarding the loss of crops. The farmers have been assured of compensation.
Assessment of crop damage after heavy rain and hailstorm in Jharkhand has begun. Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey has spoken to the state’s Disaster Management Minister Dr Irfan Ansari regarding payment of compensation for crop damage.
Disaster Management Minister Irfan Ansari has assured that the government will soon pay proper compensation to farmers for crop loss due to rain and hailstorm. Here, on the instructions of the Agriculture Minister, officials of all five blocks of Mandar Assembly constituency have started assessing the damage.
On Friday, after receiving information from the farmers and villagers of Mandar Assembly constituency, the Agriculture Minister directed the officials to conduct a site inspection and submit a report on the crop loss. The block and circle officials have been asked to submit a report related to the assessment of crop loss to the district headquarters within three days.
Complaints are continuously being received about heavy damage to the crops in the fields due to the rain and hailstorm in various areas of Jharkhand in the last 24 hours. On the basis of the report, instructions have been given to speed up the process of paying compensation amount to the farmers for the loss of their crops.
Damage reported from other parts of the state as well
Due to rain and hailstorm, damage to crops has been reported in some districts of Santhal including Lohardaga and Kolhan. The Rabi crop of farmers including mango and litchi has fallen.
Snow blanket spread in many areas
After the hailstorm, the view from Ranchi’s Tupudana to Beddo and from Lohardaga’s Bhandra to Peshrar was like Shimla snowfall. It seemed as if the jungle and mountains along with the playgrounds were covered in a white sheet.
77 mm rain in Chaibasa
The widespread effect of rain was seen in Kolhan on Friday. Due to storm and rain in West Singhbhum, roofs were blown away at many places. 77 mm rainfall was recorded in Chaibasa. Other crops including mango and onion have been damaged due to hailstorm. Many trees also fell on the road due to storm in Seraikela-Kharsawan.
Electricity supply has been disrupted in rural areas for the last 24 hours. Hailstorm occurred in many areas for half an hour. 5.6 mm rainfall was recorded in Jamshedpur.
