Jharkhand News: The National Green Tribunal has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on four district officials in Jharkhand for submitting incomplete reports regarding prevention and control of pollution of the Ganga. The NGT was hearing the matter of reducing pollution in the Ganga and its tributaries. In this matter, NGT had sought specific information from the governments of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The tribunal said, ‘The first order of the tribunal has clearly not been followed by the magistrates of these four districts, who have submitted their incomplete reports. Therefore, we impose Rs. 10,000 each on these District Magistrates and give them four weeks time to deposit this amount. The bench has now fixed July 19 for further proceedings in this matter.

Earlier a fine of Rs 25 thousand was imposed

At the same time, in February, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Jharkhand for not submitting a report regarding prevention and control of pollution in the Ganga river.

A bench of NGT Chairman Justice Prakash Srivastava, in an order passed on April 10, said compliance reports were received from Sahibganj, Dumka, Ranchi, Rajmahal, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Ramgarh districts. However, the bench comprising judicial member Justice Sudhir Aggarwal and expert member A Senthil Vel said that the reports of Sahibganj, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Ramgarh did not contain the information required and directed by the tribunal.
