Jharkhand News: Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has taken a tough stand against the arbitrariness of private schools. School Education Department Minister Ramdas Soren has given instructions to take action on complaints like fee hike, collection of money in the name of re-admission, imposing conditions to buy books only from shops designated by the school. He said that schools not complying with the government guidelines will be fined from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 2.50 lakh.
On the instructions of the minister, the Education Department has issued notices to 78 private schools in his home district Purbi Singhbhum (Jamshedpur). Complaints of violation of government guidelines have been received in these schools. In the notice issued by the District Education Officer and District Education Superintendent, the management of these schools has been asked to respond by April 3.
Complaints have also been received about fee hike from the new session in violation of the set guidelines in many schools. The education department has asked the management of private schools to submit the record of the fee structure and its increase in the last three years. In a letter issued by the department, it has been said that the tenure of the school level fee fixation committee is for three years, but some schools are not complying with this instruction.
Education Minister Ramdas Soren said that letters have been written to the commissioners and deputy commissioners of all districts instructing them to ensure the formation of fee committees in the light of the Jharkhand Education Tribunal (Amendment) Act 2017. The committee formed for fee determination at the school level will consist of the principal, secretary, three teachers nominated by the school management and four parents of children nominated by the teachers’ union. The school management will have to give information about the agenda and meeting of fee determination one week in advance.
