Ranchi. Electricity rates may increase once again in Jharkhand. Actually, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) has sent its proposal to the Electricity Regulatory Commission and has proposed to increase the electricity rates by Rs 2.35 per unit. In such a situation, now the people of Jharkhand will get expensive electricity.

At present the electricity rate in Jharkhand is Rs 6.25 per unit, if the electricity rates are increased then the new electricity rate in Jharkhand can be Rs 8.60. The Commission has sent this to the Electricity Department.

It has been proposed to apply this rate to consumers consuming more than 400 units.

Let us tell you, electricity rates were not increased during the Corona period. Due to glitch in JSIRC, no decision was taken on JVVNL’s tariff petition in Corona yesterday. In the three years i.e. 2021-22 and 2022-23 and 2023-24, the decision was taken last June only on the petition of 2021-22.

Here JVVNL has provided all the information sought by the Commission and data related to increase per unit. Now the Commission has issued the tariff petition of JVVNL and has sought objection from the general public.

After this, from October the Commission will take its decision on electricity rates after holding public hearings in all five divisions. Now in such a situation, if electricity rates increase in Jharkhand, then people will again face the brunt of inflation.
