Old Pension Scheme: Will the old pension scheme be implemented in the state or not? The finance minister gave this answer in the assembly

UP Old Pension Scheme 2023: After the implementation of the old pension scheme in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, now the demand for OPS has gained momentum across the country. Before the upcoming elections, on the one hand, the central employees are opening a front against the central government demanding old pension. On the other hand, the government employees of UP have got a big blow. The Yogi Adityanath government of the state has flatly refused to restore the old pension scheme.

Finance Minister said – OPS will not be restored

In fact, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has refused to restore OPS. When several MLAs of the Samajwadi Party raised questions in the state assembly regarding the restoration of the old pension, the state government said that the employees are more benefited in the new pension, so there is no plan to do OPS at present. Questions of SP MLA Anil Pradhan In response, State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said that the government has no intention to change the current system of pension. New pension has more benefits than OPS, so OPS will not be restored.

NPS is applicable since 2005

Describing the merits of NPS, the Finance Minister said in his reply that the New Pension Scheme (NPS) is applicable in UP from April 1, 2005. 25% of the pension amount of the employees is safe with the government and 15% is with the responsible institutions. In UP, 5.59 lakh employees and 3.36 lakh teachers are registered under NPS. On this, SP’s Lalji Verma asked where the money of the employees’ share is going? On this, the Finance Minister said that 85 percent of the money is under the protection of the government while 15 percent of the money has been invested in institutions like SIB and LIC.

If implemented in 5 states then why not in UP – SP

SP member Pankaj Malik said that the CM had also recommended the restoration of old pension earlier. OPS has been restored in five states, so why not in UP? The Finance Minister said that the employee leaders had asked for 8% interest in NPS, but they are getting more than 9% interest. When the NPS system was implemented, Tripura did not implement it, but now it has also implemented SPS. We spend 59% of the total revenue for government employees on their salaries and pensions.
