Reasons for PAN card being inactive

Go to the Income Tax Department website.
- There will be a “Verify PAN Status” option in the left side Quick Links section.
- After clicking on this, a new page will open.
- Enter PAN number, full name, DOB and registered phone number here.
- Click on Continue, now enter the OTP received on the phone number.
- After this click on “Validate” and then you will be able to see whether the PAN is active or inactive.
Let us tell you that when it is active, you will see “PAN is Active and details are as per PAN.” on the screen. Whereas, when inactive, you will see the message written as Inactive on the screen.
How to activate inactive PAN card?
To activate a deactivated PAN card, apply to the Income Tax Department. Write a letter to the Assessing Officer (AO), fill an indemnity bond in favour of the Income Tax Department, also submit the ITR filed using the deactivated PAN for the last 3 years, submit the documents to the regional Income Tax Department office. It will take about 15 days for the PAN card to be activated again.
