There has been no major change in oil prices in the country since May 2022. In the country’s capital Delhi, petrol is being sold at Rs 96.72 per liter and diesel at Rs 89.62 per liter on Saturday.
Diesel and petrol prices remained stable on December 23. There has not been much variation in oil prices in the country for the last 21 months. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced reduction in excise duty in May 2022, after which petrol became cheaper by Rs 8 and diesel by Rs 6.
India depends on import of crude oil for diesel and petrol. In such a situation, the prices of crude oil affect petrol and diesel. Along with this, increasing demand, government taxes, value of rupee against dollar and other factors also affect oil prices.
In such a situation, the prices of diesel and petrol remain stable in some cities and minor changes are seen in others. Oil companies update oil prices every day at 6 am.
