Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has completed 9 years. Women have opened the maximum number of accounts under this scheme. At the same time, Rupay cards have also been issued without charge.

9 Years of PM Jandhan Scheme: 9 years of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has been completed on 28 August 2023. For the first time this scheme was started on 28 August 2014. Under this scheme, the account of the countrymen is opened on zero balance, under which the benefits of insurance and subsidy are given.

During the last 9 years, 50.09 crore accounts have been opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Till 2015, 14.72 crore accounts were opened in this scheme. The Finance Ministry said that Rs 2,03,505 crore has been deposited under the PMJDY account.

Number of zero balance account decreased 

The number of zero balance bank accounts has decreased rapidly during 9 years. The number of zero balance bank accounts under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan account has come down from 58 per cent to just 8 per cent. Zero balance account is now 4 crores. This means that money has been deposited in the remaining 50 per cent accounts. This scheme of the central government provides basic banking facility to the people.

Women made record 

Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, 56 percent of the total accounts are of women. At the same time, 67 percent Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas. 33.98 crore RuPay cards have been issued to PMJDY account holders.

What is the benefit 

Under this scheme, account holders are given insurance of Rs 2 lakh. Along with this, 3 to 4 percent interest is given. The subsidy received under any scheme comes in its account. At the same time, with the opening of this account, the customer is considered eligible for Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana and Micro Unit Development and Refinance Agency Bank Scheme.
