Rainfall Alert: Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR, cold increased, alert issued in these areas for the coming days

Delhi-NCR, North India Weather Update: Delhi and adjoining areas received moderate to heavy rains on Friday, bringing down the temperature. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a hailstorm alert for the region. The rain that started in the morning continued till the evening and is expected to continue for a long time. An ‘orange’ alert has been issued for Delhi.

The IMD has issued a hailstorm alert for Delhi and many other areas of North India. An ‘orange’ alert has been declared for Delhi on Friday, while a ‘yellow’ alert has been issued for Saturday and Sunday.

Due to the rain, traffic was disrupted in many areas of south, central and north Delhi. The highest rainfall was recorded in the North Campus of Delhi University. This also caused waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The Meteorological Department has predicted additional rain in the city in the next few hours, which will be mainly due to western disturbances accompanied by easterly winds.

In its latest update, the IMD said, ‘Heavy rain is likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh on December 27. Thunderstorms and hailstorms are also likely over south-eastern Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat region.’

Update from Himachal to Rajasthan

Cold wave is likely to hit parts of Himachal Pradesh from Sunday. The weather department said, ‘Widespread rain/snowfall accompanied with thunder and lightning is likely over western Himalayan region on December 27 and 28, while heavy rain/snowfall is likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh on December 27 and Uttarakhand on December 27 and 28.’

Meanwhile, cold wave continues to grip Rajasthan, with light to moderate rains reported in many parts of the state. Churu recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius. Night temperatures witnessed a marginal increase, ranging from 5.4 degrees Celsius in Churu to 17.2 degrees Celsius in Vanasthali.
