Ranchi Traffic Jam A hearing was held in the division bench of Justice R Mukhopadhyay and Justice Deepak Roshan of Jharkhand High Court regarding improving the traffic system in Ranchi. During the hearing, the court has directed to remove encroachments from all the intersections and major roads of the city including Main Road, Lalpur.

The court orally said that the corporation needs to run a campaign to remove encroachments in these areas for a month. The court told the corporation that when vendor markets have been set up at some places, shops should not be set up on the footpaths in Albert Ekka and surrounding areas of the main road, but still shops are being set up here every day. As soon as the evening comes, shops are set up on the road.

People face a lot of trouble due to the problem of traffic jam around the daily market from 9 am to 9 pm. The hearing of this case will continue on Tuesday also.

What did the High Court ask from the Municipal Corporation
During the hearing, the court asked the Ranchi Municipal Corporation what action was taken to remove the vegetable shops set up on the road in Lalpur. On this, it was told by the corporation that the vegetable market near the Distillery bridge in Lalpur is not completely ready yet.

It will take two months for it to be ready. There are 273 vegetable vendors in Lalpur. Out of these, only 110 vegetable vendors can be shifted when the vendor market is formed. Meat sellers have been shifted to the market. The court said that Ranchi Municipal Corporation should make such arrangements by which all the vegetable vendors can shift to the vendor market, so that traffic in Lalpur can be facilitated.

Were all the meat sellers shifted from Lalpur?- HC

The court asked the advocate of Ranchi Municipal Corporation whether the places in Lalpur from where the meat vendors were shifted have been taken under its control by Ranchi Municipal Corporation or not. Have all the meat sellers been shifted from Lalpur? Isn’t there a single shop there? The court directed the Municipal Corporation to file an affidavit and provide information on all these points by Tuesday.

The court said that the Municipal Corporation should immediately make such arrangements so that there is no jam on the road and traffic can be facilitated. For this, campaigns were conducted every day for a month in major areas. The court also said that even before this the court had given many instructions, but the orders were not being followed. This is a serious matter.

Let us tell you that the National Hawker Federation has filed a PIL in this regard. It was said that the Municipal Corporation is removing the footpath vendors, but is not rehabilitating them. Shops have not been allotted to all the footpath vendors in the vendor market. Unless the shops are allotted, they should not be shifted.
