Big change in Pradhan Mantri Garib Annamul Yojana! Now 10 more things will be available free along with wheat and gram. Items like mustard oil, spices and flour will now reach your kitchen for free. Know how 80 crore people are taking advantage of this scheme.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Annamul Yojana (PMGAY), now beneficiaries will not only get basic food items like wheat, rice and gram, but also 10 more essential items for free. The government has further expanded this scheme and included things like mustard oil, spices, and flour. This decision will reduce the kitchen expenses of crores of people and improve their quality of life.

What are the new changes in the ration card scheme?

The government had already made provision for free distribution of wheat, rice, gram, sugar and pulses under the ration card scheme. Now 10 new items have been added to it, which also include mustard oil, soybean, flour and spices.

The purpose of including these food items is not just to satisfy hunger but also to increase the level of nutrition in people’s diet. The government has instructed all ration dealers to ensure the supply of these items on time.

Beneficiaries of Poor Annamulan Scheme

This scheme was started during the lockdown, when a large number of people were not able to meet their daily food needs. Currently, more than 80 crore people in the country are taking advantage of this scheme. However, it has also been found that some people, who are not actually eligible for it, are taking undue advantage of the scheme.

The government has decided to extend the scheme for the next five years so that more and more needy families can get relief.

Ration portability: Take advantage of the scheme anywhere

The government has also promoted ration portability under the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme. This means that if a person is in another state, he can avail the benefits of the scheme there through his ration card.

Ration shops will be developed as public convenience centers

The government is now planning to develop ration shops on the lines of Common Service Centres. Along with ration, facilities like correction in Aadhar card, caste certificate, residence certificate will also be provided at these shops.

At present, this scheme has been started as a pilot project in some districts of Uttar Pradesh. After successful implementation, it will be implemented across the country.

Why did you take this step?

The aim of the government is not only to provide food security but also to improve the living standards of the people. The new changes will not only provide relief to poor families but will also help in increasing the level of nutrition.

Challenges of the plan

Though the scheme has many positive aspects, it has also been observed that some people, who are not eligible, are taking advantage of it. The government has decided to impose strict rules in the scheme to deal with this problem.

wave of happiness among the public

This step of the government has brought happiness among the poor and middle class people. By getting 10 extra kitchen items for free, people’s budget will remain balanced and they will not have to depend on the market for their daily needs.
