Such a rumor spread on social media regarding Rs 500 note that even RBI had to come forward. RBI has rejected all the apprehensions being expressed on social media regarding the validity of notes with ‘star’ symbol (*).
In this matter, RBI has said that if you have received any bank note which has a star in the middle of the series, then this note is as valid as any other note.
Know what RBI said-
RBI said in a statement that a star mark has been added to the number panel on the note to be issued in place of the misprinted note. Seeing this star mark, some people compared it with other 500 rupee notes and called it fake or illegal, after which RBI took cognizance and gave the information.
The Reserve Bank said that in exchange of wrongly printed notes in the bundle of serial number notes, notes with star mark are issued. This mark of star is placed between the number of the note and the letters written before it.
What is the meaning of the star mark on the note?
The Reserve Bank made it clear that the bank note with the star mark is like any other legal tender. Its star mark simply shows that it has been issued as a replacement or reprinted note. Let us tell you that the introduction of Star Note was started in the year 2006 to simplify the printing of notes and reduce the cost. Earlier, the Reserve Bank used to replace misprinted notes with correct notes of the same number.
