Registration of Old Vehicle: Earlier, old vehicles were given the facility of re-registration only after inspection of vehicle by MVI and verification of documents. The DTO was the final authority to accept or reject the re-registration. However, now there has been a change.

Registration of Old Vehicle: Now the renewal of registration of private vehicles which are more than 15 years old will now require the approval of the Transport Department. A senior official gave information about this.

As per the new norms, the District Transport Officer (DTO) and Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) will conduct a joint inspection of the concerned vehicle, verify the documents in front of the owner and send the application to the department for final approval.

Earlier, old vehicles were given the facility of re-registration only after inspection of the vehicle by MVI and verification of documents. The DTO was the final authority to accept or reject the re-registration.

Videography of the entire process

A senior Patna DTO official said that the vehicle owners will have to come to the new office near Phulwarisharif Camp Jail at 11 am for joint questioning by the DTO and the MVI. “The entire process will be videographed. After this, the officials will send the application for renewal of registration to the department for final approval.

However, vehicles registered subsequently and vehicles having smart card for registration instead of Registration Certificate (RC) book are not required to go through this as the MVI can do it itself. The official said that there were about 3 lakh vehicles which were still running on RC books.

After three days (August 3-5) of the initial trial, now the new system will be implemented from Monday. The official said that only private and non-commercial vehicles are eligible for renewal of registration.
