Akroyd formula played a special role in the 7th Pay Commission
The Akroyd formula played a special role in the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission implemented in the year 2016. The government had constituted a panel to form this pay commission. This panel introduced the salary matrix. In which Akroyd formulas were used to determine the minimum wage based on the cost of living and food needs of the employees.
The 7th Pay Commission focused on the dual objectives of its salary structure. This mainly includes attracting talent and ensuring that all the financial services of the government remain fully sustainable.
Minimum wage standards were set in 1957
In India, in the year 1957, the 15th Indian Labor Conference adopted this Akroyd to establish the criteria for determining the minimum wage. The minimum wage was decided by the ILC keeping in mind the family needs of the employees. This included the employee, his wife and two children.
Akroyd formula used for minimum wage
While preparing the Last Pay Commission, the panel used the Akroyd formula to determine the minimum wage. The 7th Pay Commission had fixed the minimum wage for employees up to ₹18,000 per month.
The commission gives the minimum wage of 2,700 calories per day to the employee
The Pay Commission had resorted to the Akroyd formula to determine the minimum wage for government employees. Keeping in mind the food requirements of the employee, an intake of 2,700 calories per day was specified. Dr. Aykroyd pointed out that animal proteins, such as milk, eggs, fish, liver and meat, are more biologically efficient than vegetable proteins and suggested that they should make up at least one-fifth of total protein intake.
