The Jharkhand government has announced to change the school timings in view of the increasing heat in the state. A government official said that students from kindergarten to class 8 will go to school from 7 am to 11:30 am.

The Jharkhand government has announced to change the school timings in view of the increasing heat in the state. A government official said that students from kindergarten to class 8 will go to school from 7 am to 11:30 am, while students of higher classes will study till 12 noon. The new timings will be applicable from April 26 till further notice.

According to the order issued by the School Education and Literacy Department, “In view of the increasing impact of heat in the state, all types of government, non-government aided, unaided (including minority) schools, and all private schools, classes from KG to class 8 will run from 7 am to 11:30 am and classes from class 9 to 12 will run from 7 am to 12 noon till further notice.” Jharkhand is in the grip of severe heat and the temperature in Daltonganj has reached 43 degrees Celsius.

A weather official said on Thursday that a yellow alert for hot and humid weather has been issued for 12 districts – Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda and Sahibganj till April 26. Ranchi Meteorological Centre Deputy Director Abhishek Anand said the maximum temperature remained around 40 degrees Celsius across the state.

On Wednesday, Daltonganj recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees above normal. It was followed by Jamshedpur and Chaibasa at 42.6 and 42.4 degrees Celsius respectively. The state capital Ranchi recorded 38.8 degrees Celsius. Anand said no major change in the maximum temperature is expected for at least the next three days. Thereafter, it may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius with chances of rain and hailstorm from April 27.
