interest rate: The interest rate of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, included in the Small Savings Scheme, has been increased. The Finance Ministry has increased the interest rate from 8 percent to 8.20 percent for the January to March 2024 quarter.
Under the Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, parents or legal guardians can open an account for the daughter from birth till the age of 10 years. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana accounts can be opened in post offices and banks.
Under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Scheme, the minimum deposit amount is Rs 250 per annum and the maximum amount is Rs 1,50,000 per annum.
Let us tell you that earlier the government had not increased the interest rates for the quarter from October to December 2023. If the minimum deposit amount of Rs 250 is not deposited in a business year, a fine of Rs 50 will be imposed every year on default.
Apart from Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, interest rates on three-year deposits have been increased from 7% to 7.1%. However, rates of other schemes including PPF have not been increased.
