CBDT Chairman Nitin Gupta has said that the average time taken by the Income Tax Department to issue refunds has been brought down significantly. Gupta on Monday said that over four crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) have been filed so far for the financial year 2022-23 and more than half of them have been processed and refunds have also been issued to over 80 lakh people. “We have expedited the processing of returns and issued refunds faster,” said Gupta. The average time taken for processing returns has come down to only 16 days in the financial year 2022-23, as compared to 26 days in the previous financial year 2021-22. That is, after filing the return, TDS money should come in 16 days.
Taxpayers can check their refunds by logging into the website for electronic tax filing and selecting the option ‘Refund Status’. You should also note that, filing ITR returns after the due date of July 31, 2023 can be harmful.
Check ITR Refund
- Go to the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Log in with your User ID, Password, Date of Birth and Captcha Code.
- Go to the ‘My Account’ section.
- Click on the option ‘Refund/Demand Status’.
- Now you will get your information like Assessment Year, Status, Reason for Refund Failure (if any), and Mode of Payment will be shown.
